The Marvel Cinematic Universe has made a habit of giving audiences an extended look at the main characters in one film, often using the title “Thor: The Dark World,” and it’s the next installment that’s set to introduce some major new players.
And it looks like that’s not just limited to Thor.
In the next film, the third instalment of the “Thor” franchise, Thor: Ragnarok, the character will be back in action again in a major way.
It’s also being set in a completely different timeline than “Thor,” and one that, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, is going to make the most of the cinematic universe’s current limitations.
“The thing that really makes this different from what we’re used to is that we’re setting this in the timeline that Thor was in,” Feige said at a press event on Tuesday.
“So we’re really using the story that was in the book, so this is going up against the current state of affairs in the Marvel Cinematics Universe, which is where Thor: The Avengers was.”
This isn’t the first time Marvel Studios has been pushing back against the timeline established in the comics and movie.
In a new video from The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel’s vice president of television, Adam McKay, said that the studio would be changing the timeline in Thor: Dark World to make it more interesting.
“We’re going to have Thor go into space,” McKay said.
“It’s a new universe that’s different than what we had before.”
That doesn’t mean that the Thor: Thor film will be the only one that looks like it has a major new storyline.
There are a lot of other new movies on the way, and Feige was coy about the specifics of those movies when asked about their timelines.
The studio is also looking to expand on some of the characters that have been part of the MCU for a while.
“The first Thor movie, we wanted to do something that really pushed the boundaries and the breadth of the Thor franchise and gave audiences something different, something new, and something they’re excited about,” McKay explained.
“There’s a lot more to come from Thor, and that’s why we’re working on this next movie, and it doesn’t feel like it’s stopping us from going forward.
It just feels like we have a really strong sense of where we want to go with it.”
In the same interview, McKay said that “Thor 2” was going to be “much more” of a sequel, with an emphasis on the characters and events that lead up to the sequel.
He added that this new Thor movie would be much darker than the first, which was about the aftermath of the events of “Thor.”
Feige said that Thor: One is going “be the next one” in the series, but he wasn’t sure exactly when that would be.
“I can’t talk about the dates, because I can’t tell you,” Feinge said.
However, he did tease that the film would be directed by his friend, Kevin Feherty, who was also a producer on “Thor”.
“We think the Thor movies are the best ones that have ever been made,” Feherty said.
He also mentioned that there was a “good relationship” between McKay and Feig in that project, but said that McKay’s approach would change.
“It’s not a matter of just getting to know him, it’s a matter, you know, I’ve always been impressed by Kevin’s storytelling,” Feig said.
While the Marvel Studios chief executive is hinting that a new Thor film may be coming, Feige also said that there will be a “major” film in the works in 2018, before adding that “the other thing that is going on is we’re planning to do a Thor movie for 2019 that’s a really exciting one.” “
We’ve already been to a lot, and so we want it to go beyond what we’ve done before, but also it has to feel very different.”
While the Marvel Studios chief executive is hinting that a new Thor film may be coming, Feige also said that there will be a “major” film in the works in 2018, before adding that “the other thing that is going on is we’re planning to do a Thor movie for 2019 that’s a really exciting one.”
That movie is set to be called “Thor the First” and will follow the character’s history in the MCW and “Thor as he continues to lead the Asgardians in his quest for peace and justice.”
Feig also said there was “a big plan” for the next movie in the Thor trilogy, but that the focus was on a new “Thor 3” in 2020.
“If we do a big Thor 3, I would love to do it in 2020,” Feinge said.
It seems like “Thor 4” is a possibility, too.
The director for that film is Michael Green, who previously directed “Thor 1” and “The Avengers.”
Green’s other recent project is “Thor 5,” which will focus on Thor’s adventures with a new character.
Feige confirmed that
