In the United States, anime and manga accounts for more than $500 billion in revenue annually, according to estimates from the PPP Database Project.
For every 1,000 anime and comics book sales, the company estimates the anime and comic accounts for $12.50, or almost 9 percent of overall book sales.
The average PPP anime account is 2.7 million subscribers, according the project.
The PPP project’s chief executive, Greg Cox, said he hoped the database would provide a resource for anime fans, but he didn’t rule out other sites.
“I think the most important thing about the database is that it’s an asset for anime and for the creators,” Cox said.
“The question is how can we make it more useful?”
The PPSP Database project started in 2007 as a collaboration between the American Library Association and the International Copyright Office to find and publish data for books and films that have been licensed for public consumption.
In 2015, it expanded to include the catalogs of anime, manga, and video games.
