Database Administrator Certification is a post-secondary certification program which is designed to assist administrators and other professionals who are considering entering the database management industry.
The program is offered by the University of Toronto’s department of computer and information systems and the College of Business, Accounting and Marketing.
Here are some key points about the program: ‑The course covers the following topics: † Database management’, †Information systems, “Information technology”, ‘Database architecture’ and “Application architecture”.
†Students who successfully complete the course may apply for “Computer & Information Systems “Certification’” at a later date.
“The certificate program requires the student to have a minimum of one year of work experience with a database administrator position.
”“Students must demonstrate that they can understand and implement database management concepts, procedures and tools in a structured manner and demonstrate a strong understanding of the use of these concepts in the database environment.”
“Students may not have prior database management experience, nor have prior experience with the management of large databases, nor experience managing databases for other organizations.““The course may not be offered to individuals who are not in the top 1% of students in their field, but the course will provide the prerequisite information and training necessary to meet the requirements for the certification exam.’”
The exam will be administered by the Post-Graduate Program, Post-Doctoral Program or College of Computer & Information Sciences (CAS).””
Students must be able to understand and execute the concepts, processes and tools of database management in a systematic and logical manner.‘‘Students will learn the concepts of database administration, including basic database design, database maintenance, maintenance, and recovery, database operation, and backup and recovery processes.„ “During the certification program, students must demonstrate an understanding of data structures, indexes, queries, joins, transactions, and logical structure.‟ “In addition, students will learn a broad range of database related topics.‡”For example, the exam will examine database operations such as querying, merging, retrieving, deleting, loading, and creating.
Students will also be exposed to various database management technologies, such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite.“A minimum of 80% of the students completing the course, including those who have completed the program, will be able, through the application of knowledge and experience gained in the course to successfully pass the exam.
